My educational experiences are, Undergraduate Degree in Applied Management, Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ. Relevant to my current occupation are courses such as Applied Communication, Group Dynamics, Leadership and Supervision and Interpersonal Skills. Masters in Elementary Teaching, University of Phoenix. Courses successfully completed, Art of Teaching, Adolescent Development, Instructional Strategies, Assessment in Reading and Language Arts. I am a certified Educator with the Arizona Dept of Education. In addition, I hold eight years as a long/short term Sub-teacher at Isaac and Alhambra School Districts. At these I teach K-6 all subjects included are ELL/ELD.
First and foremost, I am a bi-lingual Educator. My secondary language is Spanish by nature. Importantly, I am certified in this subject. My professional endeavors have led me to teach basic ESL in an adult setting. This took place at Adelante Career Institute located in Van Nuys CA. In addition, I have spent many years working with ELL/ELD students within the public school districts here in Phoenix, AZ.
I am a certified educator for the St. of Arizona. In addition I hold 8 years of long/short term sub-teaching experience. Currently I am a professional tutor for three agencies.
In the area of phonics: Kindergarten; I tutor in identifying letters of the alphabet upper/lower. Recognition of words, learning letter sounds, using consonants and vowels. 1-5 grades; distinguish initial, medial and final sounds in a single syllable word. Identify and manipulate sounds of speech. Segment multi syllable words. decode syllabication and finally, read multi-syllable words fluently. Identify plurals, recognize high frequency words, Word order and context to confirm decoding.
Reading process: K-basics, using the alphabet letters as a primary foundation. Phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and reading and comprehension as noted by AZ State standards. 1-5, Strands 1-3, print concepts, phonemic awareness, and comprehension of text.
Spanish process: Elementary, use alphabet as a basic foundation for learning. Create words and sentences using these. ID pictures, colors, and shapes. Once each phase is completed translate into the Spanish language. Adults are taught according to their previous knowledge if none the above is followed.
Vocabulary process: Elementary, meaning of words, sort according to categories, such as colors, shapes and foods. Describe objects and events generally and specifically. Use new vocabulary words in relevant contexts.
Writing process: Elementary, Concept 1 Prewriting; generate, plan, and organize for specific purpose. Concept 2 Drafting, create first draft. Revising; make changes if needed. Final; publication is ready for viewing. A customized learning plan is created for adult writing projects.
