I have been in the Graphic Design field for about 14 years. Most of my experience has been involved in the print industry but have experience in web design. I am well versed in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign with good experience in Dreamweaver.

I have designed everything from simple company logos to collateral such as letterhead, stationery, brochures and company newsletters assisting clients in developing their materials to meet targeted business and personal goals.

I have taught various aspects of graphic design and related software application as adjunct faculty at Phoenix College for the last 12 years.

I have taught three-week courses in computer graphics and animation to 4th and 5th grades. This was part of the Program for Talented Youth at Arizona State University.

I truly enjoy what I do and am always thrilled when I see others succeed with their dreams and goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

In my opinion, Illustrator is highly underrated. Perhaps it is because it is not fully understood or access to the general public - who general thinks in terms of Photoshop. However, Illustrator has great benefits and options for you and is truly an asset to your arsenal.

Adobe InDesign

For many years, I have used InDesign directly in my work from designing brochures and newsletters to laying out books and pamphlets.

I have taught courses on InDesign at the college level and present participate in an InDesign Users Group.

InDesign continues to be one of my favorite page layout software applications.

Adobe Photoshop

I have used Photoshop extensively from the creation of graphics to photograph editing to production applications. Along with Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXpress and Acrobat, I have incorporated Photoshop in many ways to accomplish many tasks.

Whether one is new to Photoshop, or has SOME experience and need to further their skills for home or business, this is a great way to get the help YOU in the style you can use.

HTML

I have worked with HTML and related platforms like CSS for some time. This includes Web design and update but also a myriad of other projects requiring HTML/CSS knowledge. It is an ever changing field even if web design itself is not part of your goals.

Photography

Drawing from my experiences as a Graphic Designer and related topics, I have found a fascination with Photography that continues to grow - both within the artistic composition and the technical aspects of the craft. I love what Photography can do to capture a moment and what it can do to capture the imagination and fascination of the viewer.

I sometimes get requests to tutor in a particular design software where the goal is actually assistance toward a specific task as opposed to general education of that software. More often than not, this task has something to do with using Photoshop to remove a background or to cut someone out of a picture and place him in front of the Eiffel Tower. The truth of the matter is that the task... read more

Knowledgeable, articulate, helpful and, yes, patient! — I contacted Ian for very specific training in either InDesign or Illustrator. I did not know which would best fit my needs of the moment. Since we live at opposite ends of the valley and we both have laptops, we met at an agreed location in between. He determined InDesign was best for me at this time and then spent three hours (my parameters) giving me basics for an overview and then addressing ...
