I am a certified elementary teacher and in my eigthth year of teaching. I have taught first grade, third grade, fourth grade and currently teaching fifth grade. I do have experience working with all elementary grade levels through student teaching, tutoring, teacher partnering, and more. I've worked with elementary students in a variety of capacities beyond the classroom as well, including tutoring, volunteering, being a camp counselor, and coaching. Therefore, I am not only knowledgeable in the curriculum of elementary students, but I also understand how to support and encourage them when they are struggling.
I have completed a variety of professional seminars and workshops that have taught me multiple different strategies, activities, games, and more to help students who are both struggling and need motivation. My collection of resources includes computer games, board games, interactive activities, teaching workbook resources, hands-on lessons, and more. I guarantee whether your child needs help with reading, phonics, writing, spelling, math, science, or social studies, I have plenty of resources to help!
I have eight years of teaching elementary math, first through fifth grade. I have used various curriculum including Math Connects and Houghton Mifflin. Through the past few years, I have participated in several state professional development trainings, including Common Core Math for K-6, AZ COUNTS Problem-Solving for math and "Create a LIVE Mathematics Classroom". These trainings have prepared me to use various modeling and inquiry-based strategies for teaching math that help my students greatly improve their math skills!
I am a certified elementary teacher, with a concentration on early childhood learning. I have several years of teaching experience at the lower elementary level, and I am familiar with several different phonics programs and methods. I've taught Houghton Mifflin, Open Court, Wilson, and more. Therefore, I have probably used the program your child has at school, which can be helpful because I am aware of the many strategies used in them. In addition, I have used DIBELS, the Basic Reading Inventory, and various other phonics screeners, so I am familiar with how students are tested and the grade level requirements they will have for the appropriate reading level.
I also have a great collection of various phonics games, activities, computer programs and learning modules that have been extremely successful with my students for the past few years. 95% of my students every year are tested to be at or above grade level in reading and basic phonics skills because of the variety of interactive and research-based strategies that I use. In addition, I have a wide variety of reading materials that range from beginning literacy all the way up to fifth grade that I use in conjunction with phonics activities.
Being a teacher for eight years, I have learned a plethora of techniques for becoming a better student. I can teach your child how to stay organized, how to complete a daily agenda book, how to study for a test, where to find extra internet resources for homework practice, how to complete homework in a timely fashion, good ways to review for a test, and much more. In addition, I have a lot of strategies for color-coding, tabbing, labeling, and other forms of organization that can help your child keep their work neat, organized, and in the proper place. I also have resources that can help your child determine what kind of learner they are and how they learn and understand things best. I can also teach them, from a teacher's point of view, how to communicate with their teacher about their learning styles.
