Elementary (K-6th)

I majored in Elementary Education and received my BA in Education from the University of Arizona. I have taught elementary school for the past four years. During my first year, I taught reading intervention to students in need of remedial reading instruction (students who had fallen behind in reading and needed intervention to boost their skills). I then taught fourth grade in both mainstream and SEI (Structured English Immersion) classrooms. I currently teach third grade.

My teacher certification includes K-8; I also have a Structured English Immersion endorsement. This year, I will complete my reading endorsement. I am also working on my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in language and literacy.

Phonics

I have received years of training in phonics instruction both as a part of my university requirements and as a part of the professional development training I have received as a teacher. I currently teach phonics daily as a part of the reading curriculum I use in my third grade classroom. I also tutored and trained with a company that used phonics as the medium of its reading instruction to struggling readers. As I am soon to receive my reading endorsement, I have very up-to-date techniques and training in phonics instruction.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
