An effective oral communicator with experience in training, coaching, team building, and public speaking, I am looking to put my 13 years of experience as a college professor and coach to use in a one-on-one or small group environment. I have experience in writing, editing, multi-media presentations and educational events. As an administrative assistant for the Arizona Department of Game and Fish Education Branch, I prepared classroom materials for kindergarten through adults. As the Director of Communications for a 5,000 member organization, I coordinated drama/musical productions, concerts, a weekly newsletter, radio broadcasts and a national award-winning monthly newsletter.

Although I was named Coach of the Year for the National Christian College Athletic Association in 2000, I see myself as more of a motivator and administrator, than a technician.

My tutorial style is to discover the way an individual learns best and create a program of study that is easiest for that individual. I have worked with both students with disabilities and those with exceptional gifts. I would prefer to tutor in English, History or the Social Sciences, but am capable of designing and implementing a total study program for your student. I have also done tutoring for ACT, SAT, GRE and GED preparation.

American History

Having taught college history for 13 years, I have the unique ability to understand the expectations of a professor in this field. Not only can I assist in general study skills in the area of history in general, but also have the ability to make history interesting and relevant.

ACT Reading

Although reading skills are acquired over a long period of time, certain basic techniques improve comprehension and will help a student get higher scores on both the ACT and SAT reading tests.

During lessons, I help the student break down the major components of an essay, recognize key themes and analyze subject matter. By understanding basic sentence and paragraph structure, a student can improve their reading test scores.

ACT English

When working with a student preparing for the ACT or the SAT test, I prefer to met for at least three sessions. This gives me an opportunity to assess the student's skills, assign work to do at home, and then provide feedback and corrections during lessons.

I also spend time discussing basic test taking skills and tips for scoring as high as possible.

Music History

Although I have a BS in history and have the knowledge base for music history, I am also a musician. I play the piano and various percussion instruments. I have played in both orchestra and small ensemble settings. The combination of my love of music, along with my background in history, makes music history particularly interesting and fun to teach.

I have served as a coach, instructor, umpire and clinician for baseball from t-ball through Junior College. I stress basic skills and correct mechanics for young players so that they can have longer, healthier careers if they so choose. Emphasis on fielding, proper throwing mechanics and efficient batting techniques are my primary concern. Also, an understanding of the history and development of the sport are included in any training.

Bible Studies

I believe that II Timothy 3:16-17 is the truth. The Bible is either absolutely, 100% God's Word, or it is a complete and utter lie. I was named the 2002 Coach of the Year for the West Region of the NCAA and my team finished 2nd in that year's tournament.

Public Speaking

I have a variety of experiences in this area. Along with teaching history at the college level for thirteen years, I have also taught seminars in a variety of areas.
