I am a master teacher, nationally certified in English. I hold a master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University and a master's degree in educational leadership. I am within a semester of being finished with my doctoral degree and am a certified reading specialist. I have taught everything from elementary school through graduate school and am a published writer. My area of expertise is at-risk students, and I believe all students are capable but that our methods need to match student needs. I have more than 26 years teaching experience, and am more than happy to help you get over those hurdles and make your goals.

Career Development

I am a professional development specialist with nine years experience in the field. I manage a faculty of 16 teachers and am in charge of their highly qualified status needs. Additionally, as an AVID coordinator and teacher, I have taught thousands of students how to write a resume and cover letter, identify a job and prepare for the interview. For fourteen years, I worked at the university to help teachers locate and procure jobs as well.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified classroom teacher and have been for 23 years. I am currently at an urban school, K-6 grade, serving as the school's reading specialist. I service 424 students, taking charge of their assessment as well as their instruction. I work with dozens of young students every day. My job though requires that I work with those who struggle most. This means that I have to adapt by style to every individual student's needs.

General Computer

I have extensive computer experience, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. I have spent the last ten years as an online student and the last seven as an online instructor (WebCt, and Blackboard) and am very well versed in TaskStream. I am familiar with both Macintosh and IBM/IBM clones.

Soccer

I have extensive experience in soccer, both as an athlete and a coach. I played for more than twenty years, both in Europe and in the States. I coached for St. Mary's High School and, in fact, began that school's team. I understand and love the game, but I understand even more the necessity for raising the player by building upon that player's skills.

Study Skills

As a teacher and university professor for 27 years, I have had to teach my students how to learn. There is much brain-based research in learning, however, and this is truly where I excel. AVID, for which I have been both a teacher and a coordinator, focuses on developing college skills in high school students. My students succeed. Last year, we raised over $2 million dollars in scholarships for my students to go to college.
