If you are getting ready to enter college for the first time or picking up where you previously left off, then I can help you get ready for your future. I have more than 25 years experience teaching IT and Business/Leadership courses at universities, state colleges, and community colleges. I was an academic dean and have run colleges for eight years with as many as 1,000+ students. In addition, I have been a part-time instructor in private middle school and high school. I also have more than 20 years experience in various levels of management in the IT arena.
I can help you decide on a program that meets your capabilities and career goals. Once that is in place, I can be of assistance in choosing the school that is best for you to attend. I will provide you with selection criteria but I will not and should not be the person that makes the final choices. Those are up to you. That means you must first honestly decide on what are your strengths and weaknesses and maybe how to overcome your short comings. Once you are in school, I can provide you with information on how to succeed in the classroom using simple tools such as effective time management, test preparation hints and developing good study habits.
If you want to be successful in today's business world you must develop good written and oral communication skills. Unfortunately, I am not an English major. However, I have years of formal education and experience in preparing and delivering presentations in front of large groups of people including executives and leaders. Remember, an important part of getting ahead is being able to get up and sell your ideas as well as yourself.
Give me the opportunity to help you succeed.
Welcome student. If you have reached me, then you are interested in learning more about the topic of "Business." I have worked with different kinds of businesses, including the business of education, for approximately 45 years. In addition, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Business and a Master's degree in Management.
The subject of "Business" covers all aspects of starting and running your own business. The process begins by developing an initial business plan. This includes recognizing the need for your product/service and noting who will be your competition. It progresses to obtaining start-up funding (if necessary) finding and opening an initial operating site, hiring the first staff members, providing any necessary training, recognizing, recording, and collecting revenue (sales), controlling expenses, and determining profit. If the business is profitable, when and how to expand will also be covered.
Additional topics include: how to motivate people to achieve their personal objectives; how to hire the best candidates; how to conduct performance evaluations so that all parties are satisfied; and how to administer disciplinary measures.
If you are reading this, then I can only assume that you are not satisfied with what you are currently doing and would like to improve your situation. I am here to help you eventually achieve your own personal goals. I have been in the education field, at the college level, for more than 25 years and have held positions of faculty, academic dean, and college administrator. In addition, I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Business and a Master's degree in Management. I know what it takes to be successful with the learning process.
Career Development begins with helping you to determine what you want to be. This process makes you recognize your strengths and weaknesses and see if you are able to overcome where you are weak. The next step is to figure out how you can obtain your goals. Not everything requires a formal education; there is always room for on the job training and internships. If a diploma is what you require, then how do you go about obtaining one. There are several options there but some have greater requirements to begin. If you do not have them, then what can you do. If you are not restricted/limited, then you will be helped in selecting a school that meets all your requirements. You will understand such topics as Admissions and Financial Aid. Before beginning your education, you will receive tips on how to succeed in the classroom. Remember, the school takes on much of the responsibility for your success, but you are also on the hook for certain aspects of the educational process. Even though you will not need them up front, there will also be tips on how to successfully find jobs once school is complete.
Attaining a formal education can be one of the most expensive endeavors an individual will undertake. In some instances costs can be higher than buying a house. Therefore, you want to do it right; the first time. I think I can help you achieve your career objectives.
Are you one of those who would rather have a root canal performed on them, without Novocaine, than do public speaking? If this is true, don't be concerned, you are not alone and I can help. For the past 25 years I have made speeches on an almost daily basis. That is because I have been in the field of Education and held various faculty and administration positions. In a way, every lecture is a speech.
In addition to education, I have held various jobs in the field of Information Technology. Every thing you do there must be approved and funded by those who are paying to have it done. In many instances, they want you to formally present what you are proposing. Those in the audience can be simply clerks or vice-presidents. They want to hear what you have to say.
I have personally earned a Bachelor's degree in Business and a Master's degree in Management. Required courses included Public Speaking and Elements of Group Discussion. The school understood the value of what was learned and it didn't take too many years to prove them right.
Oral communication is often referred to as one of the two "soft skills." Many people are limited in this important arena. Unfortunately, during the educational process and in the business world, you will eventually be asked to get up and speak. This course will help you overcome this major obstacle by training you in how to effectively sell yourself. Topics include speech writing, audience assessment, practicing your speech, what to do in front of others, and what it takes to get better should the first time not be successful.
