I enjoy teaching basic math and science skills to students. It's important to understand the basics before moving on to more advanced topics. I take the hands-on approach to tutoring. In other words, I don't give the students the answers. They must work for the answers, and demonstrate an understanding of the concept before we move to the next concept.
My tutoring style is very flexible. I find that taking a complicated idea and presenting it in the simplest terms makes more sense than repeating the incomprehensible explanation given in some of the textbooks I've seen. If I can simplify a concept using apples, oranges, and the occasional pizza, I do it. These are tangible items that students can relate to. I most enjoy seeing the light bulb turn on. That's when I know I've made a breakthrough with a student. Learning is an accomplishment, but should also be fun.
