My name is Ashley, and I am located in Paradise Valley. I am switching careers (formerly a mental health therapist) and beginning to teach. I love working with children and have two of my own. I am particularly skilled in English, literature, grammar, phonics, handwriting and elementary education.

I believe in using positive reinforcement and a collaborative method of teaching. With this, I like to work with my students rather than strictly using lecture and demonstrations. I utilize flashcards, mnemonics, and link methods to help with learning and memorization. When I was in school, classmates would always ask for my notes and methods before each final exam. I like to have fun with the kids and increase their passion for learning; I hope that it resembles my own!

Phonics

Phonics is a method for teaching reading and writing the English language. I have taught phonics to 3-6 year olds, as well as my own children (ages 2 and 6). I assisted teachers in the classroom, where we completed phonics centers each day, and I helped facilitate my own children in reading and writing.
