I know how to make learning FUN! I have 4 children ages 12, 17, 19 and 22. I have tutored them through school and they are all A and B students in both high school and college. I served as an assistant scout masters (BSA) for over 20 years. I am currently certified as a climbing/repelling specialist through BSA.
I taught speech, English and wood shop at the high school level for 5 years. I was an assistant professor of speech and head tennis coach at the college level for 6 years. I currently have 6 years of experience as a corporate trainer in leadership development, personal improvement, effective communications and employee relations.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I taught high school English and speech. I also taught college speech which required a research paper. I taught the students how to research and write successful MLA style research papers. I graded 400 to 480 research papers each year for 7 years. I currently review and help my own high school and college age children with their writing assignments.

ESL/ESOL

Two years ago, I served as a coordinator of a conversational English program. We met twice a week and I taught between 4 to 10 students each week. We used "The Daily Dose of English" program. I volunteer in this program for over a year and I still have all the materials for this effective conversational English program.

Literature

I taught high school English and literature for a year. We studied and discussed in depth the story, characters and meanings of each classic. I am an avid reader and I read for 3 to 4 hours daily. I am also writing a book which is very demanding but also very enjoyable at the same time.

Public Speaking

I have 6 years of full time teaching public speaking and oral communication as a college professor. I have a master's degree in Community College Education with emphases in speech communications and English. I also have an additional 13 years as adjunct speech faculty at Northern Arizona University, Westminster College and at Northland Pioneer College. I also coached the speech team while I taught high school.

Reading

I have 2 degrees in education. I took several classes on reading and reading comprehension. I have taught all four of my children to read. I first read to them and have them repeat back words and sentences. By the time they enter kindergarten they are already reading well. I still read with them each week to ensure they continue to improve.

Speech

I have a masters degree in Community College Education with emphases in speech communications and English. I have 6 years of full time teaching public speaking and oral communication as a college professor. I also have an additional 13 years as adjunct speech faculty. I coached the speech team while I taught high school.

Tennis

I coached college tennis for 2 years and we were nationally ranked in the top 10. We had the number one doubles team and the number two singles player in the nation for 2 year colleges. I coached at the high school level for 4 years and coached with the Mesa Tennis Academy for 2 years.
