Recent recipient of Master's Degree wanting to share knowledge

My parents are retired educators. Their love of learning was passed down to me. I had the privilege of going to a good liberal arts college, where I earned my Bachelor's Degree, and have since received my Master's Degree from Arizona State University.

I would like all of the students I tutor to be able to understand the school work they are doing, and to learn to think critically, not just memorize answers for tests. I see understanding and critical thinking as being very important if one wants to thrive in a world that keeps getting more complicated, and where most people will have many different jobs in their lifetimes.

American History

I have both a good memory of important dates in American History, and a good grasp of the context in which major events in American History took place, such as the American Revolution, the Civil War, America's involvement in World War I, America's involvement in World War II, as well as the Civil Rights' Movement.

Reading

I am an avid reader. The majority of the books I read are fiction, but I do read non-fiction from time-to-time. Reading is not only important for understanding the world, but if one reads well written books it can help one become a better writer.

Writing

I finished my Master's Degree last year. As part of getting my Master's Degree I did a great deal of writing, including writing a thesis that came out to over eighty pages. All of my education, but especially my work on my Master's Degree, I believe has made me into a very good writer.

Geography

Since high school, I have been very good with both national and world geography. I think geography should be more than about knowing names of countries and capitals, but in understanding how a city's, state's, or country's location affects its culture. I would very much like to tutor students in geography.

English

I have a pretty good knowledge of grammar. I am a very good writer, mainly, as a result of all of the writing that I did in graduate school.

Government & Politics

I minored in political science in college, and have always been politically active. I am very knowledgeable as to how governmental/political systems work.

Proofreading

I have done a great deal of writing in my life. I have a Master's Degree, which I had to write a thesis for. Because of all of this writing I have had to do a great deal of proof reading. I also occasionally proofread my wife's writing. She is in graduate school.

GED

I graduated from high school with a grade point average of close to 3.7 on a 4.0 scale. I have since obtained both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree. I consider myself strong in all subjects but Math.

Elementary Math

Being 50 years old, it is a long time since I have taken elementary math. However, I use math, very frequently, at my job, as well as for other things in my day-to-day life.

Social Studies

I would like to help students follow current events, and be able to write about them. I follow current political events very closely. I am regularly involved in political campaigns. My minor for my Bachelor's Degree was Political Science.
