I have my Associate of Science Degree in Mathematics, and I spent several semesters as a Mathematics Supplemental Instructor holding free sessions for students outside of the classroom (which I also attended). Though the sessions were free for the students, I was paid an hourly wage. My attendance numbers were high because people needed help, and because I am open and engaging, instructive, and able to pose questions so that students understand, rather than simply explaining the material.
I am also able to adapt different ways of presenting material and making it engaging to the you, as well as adapt to each unique student. I have an unparalleled amount of patience and also make it fun to learn math... even for those who claim to "hate" math! The process of learning and figuring it out for yourself (with my guidance) is more rewarding than having it explained to you.
Plus, having a young, understanding, and hip guy like me seems to help a lot with the students' ability to learn, the amount of trust they place in me (and in themselves, since I encourage that), and the laid back atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
