I'm a Stanford University Mathematics major and now an instructor at Mesa Community College, with extensive tutoring experience in Arizona and California. Previously, I was a high school mathematics teacher in Pacific Palisades, California and Louisville, Kentucky, and even in Thailand as well as at College Preparatory Center of Aramco (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).

I believe that every student willing to work can succeed in his or her progress through the courses of mathematics. I believe that from every course a student should obtain insight and retain mastery over the key concepts, and that such understanding forms the basis for further advancement. In other words, a math course is not something to do once and then it's over and forgotten.

Algebra 1

Having taught both college and high school, I am qualified by experience as well as by schooling in mathematics. Over the years I have perfected the art of listening to students and getting them the help and understanding that they need. For several years I was a tutor at MCC as well as teaching Algebra courses at all levels. Currently I teach Calculus at MCC. My teaching career began at Palisades Sr. High School in California.

In my professional work as adjunct professor at MCC as well as at home in managing my monthly budget, I use Excel spreadsheets. I have a dual career in computer programming and as a mathematics instructor, and at one time was a world class expert in the COBOL programming language. Geometry

Back in my high school days, Geometry was the first math class that I found really intriguing. It influenced me to want to become a math teacher, and that is eventually what happened.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of the most elegant parts of mathematics. If you are given the key to mastery of it (which I can do for you), it's extremely enjoyable. It's a major component of eventual success in Calculus, and so the requirement should be taken very seriously. With my heavy experience teaching at high schools in California and Kentucky, and at college since 1999, I can make Trig a success for you.

SAT Math

Dreading the SAT? Want to maximize your score, which affects your acceptance to the college you want? If so, I think I'd be your best choice to review all of the math topics that are included in the SAT.

GRE

The GRE is an important exam, and much of it depends upon careful reading to determine the meaning of a sentence, and to choose the correct answer by reasoning and interpretation.

Perhaps more importantly, in the Quantitative Reasoning part of the exam, a candidate must demonstrate good knowledge of numeracy, algebra, geometry, probability, statistics, distributions (Bell curve) and the like.

GED

The GED is an important exam, and much of it depends upon careful reading to determine the meaning of a sentence, or to locate and correct a deliberate error (spelling or syntax) in the phrasing. I possess the skills and training to assist anyone in this. In addition, a lot of the test has to do with competence in basic math, such as percentages and fundamentals of algebra, so my Mathematics Degree and copious teaching experience are very helpful when tutoring those in need of passing GED.

Probability

I am qualified to assist students in the subtopic of probability, embracing also binomial, normal, Poisson and hypergeometric distributions. In the recent past I have taught a course at MCC that includes this material (MAT218).

(I suggest a TI-84 or TI-83 calculator to any student in this area.)

ACT Math

Having taught both college and high school, I am qualified by experience as well as schooling in mathematics and in the art of listening to students and getting them the help and understanding that they need.

Fortran

Fortran was the first higher level computer programming language, made available by IBM for the 704 computer in late 1957.

As a young employee of Lockheed Aircraft, I was in a position to write the first computer program using that language. Subsequently my pioneering experience was the basis for teaching Fortran to other computer programmers in the Math Analysis Department at Lockheed.
