ADD/ADHD
I am certified in special education specifically learning disabilities. I have worked in classrooms with ADD/ADHD students and also have five boys of my own who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
Aspergers
I have a teaching certificate in Special Education, specifically Learning Disabilities. I have worked with students at the 8th grade level and the sixth grade level with Aspergers. I am still learning about this and have been having great success helping the students I work with.
Autism
I have a certificate in Special Education and have worked with students with Autism in my resource classes for 11 years. Lately, I have been subbing in classes with students with Autism. I have also been to some seminars. Although each student is different I have seen success with the students I have worked with.
Bible Studies
I have taken some classes at Brigham Young University and at other colleges and universities I have attended. I have studied the Bible in seminary and institute classes I have also taught classes as a lay teacher for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Cooking
I have taken and taught cooking classes. I had five boys and 5 siblings I cooked for. I also cooked for boys for pay when I went to school at Brigham Young University. I have worked in the AZ Temple Cafeteria and Mesa Schools Cafeterias for pay.
Dyslexia
I am certified in Special Education and have worked with students with Dyslexia. I also have at least two boys of my own that are in college or graduated from college that struggled with this disability. I have attended several Seminars put on by the Dyslexia Association. I have had success working with students with Dyslexia and can relate because I struggle with it too.
Elementary (K-6th)
I am Certified with an Elementary Certificate. I usually work with special needs students and have been working in the regular education classrooms as a substitute lately.
Elementary Math
I have been tutoring students in math for at least 20 years now. I have also taught special needs students with the Saxon Math program. I have substituted in many math classes K-12 successfully. I enjoy doing math and have had fun teaching it also.
General Music
I have taken many classes that were music related including teaching music to elementary students. I have directed primary and adult groups in choirs and classes. I have taught piano lessons. I have also written and arranged music. I have been subbing in music classes, including general music,choir, band and orchestra.
Phonics
I have a teaching certification in Special Education. I have helped students achieve in reading and writing by using the Sonday System and Language foundations, two great programs that teach with and emphasis on phonics. I have also prepared students for progress monitoring and informal assessing with DIBLES and AIMSweb probes.
Public Speaking
I have taken Public Speaking in school and have had practice teaching adults as an in-service leader. I have also had several opportunities to speak to large and small groups in a church setting and in school and business professional development settings.
Reading
I have been teaching reading individually and with full classes for over 20 years. I have recently discovered the Sonday System that is helping many of my students to learn to read in spite of their disabilities.
Songwriting
I have written music in my college music classes. I have also written two songs on my own and arranged a few with help of some other song writers. I have recently written words to another song and am in the process of composing the music. I have taken theory with my piano lessons and taught music theory along with the piano lessons I taught.
Special Needs
I am certified in special education specific Learning disabilities. I have worked with special needs students in my own classes as a certified teacher for 11 years. I have worked also as a tutor for the same amount of time. Previously I worked with special needs students in the regular classroom as a volunteer for 20 years while I was raising my own children with special needs.
Study Skills
I have taught Study Skills classes to eighth grade resource students. I have also subbed in resource study skills classes and taught the skills needed at that time. I have also taught teacher development classes in my church callings. I have tutored many students in study skills including test taking strategies and setting up homework areas complete with supplies and time management.
Theatre
I have worked in Opera Workshop classes in the community college. I have written my own road show scripts and directed them and received awards in competitions. I have worked as a costume mistress, worked the lights, worked with props and was assistant director for some Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. I often have my students do plays on Fridays or before breaks in school. I find the students read plays better than prose. This has shown them they can read better than thought. It has also got them reading when they previously refused.
