I have a B.A. in English and over 20 years of professional writing and computer experience, including Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and many other software applications, which I taught at a paralegal school. I have studied acting and performed in both community theater and professionally, as well as on film. I have also studied art, with an emphasis on drawing and acrylic painting. I have converted many of my drawings to woodburnings, which have won awards at the Arizona State Fair. I am very easy-going with a great sense of humor, which I believe is essential in order to make learning more enjoyable and memorable.

English

I have a B.A. in English from Arizona State University and am a stickler for proper spelling and grammar. I have taught Basic English at a private college, and I use humor and "mind tricks" to help students learn and remember proper usage. One of my personal pet peeves is misuse of the contraction "it's." This word always means "it is" or "it has," and is never used as a possessive. The trick I use is to say it in its expanded form when reading the sentence; e.g., "The dog ate its bone" would be correct, while "the dog ate it's bone" would not. You would determine this by saying, "The dog ate it is bone." Knowing that sentence doesn't make sense, you would then use the possessive pronoun "its" in the sentence.

General Computer

I have been using the Internet on a daily basis since the 1990s and have assisted people many times with Internet navigation, setting up and using email accounts, uploading pictures and documents, and finding and using shortcuts while online. I am not an expert in all of the technical aspects of computer usage, but I can help you use your software and Internet browsing to your best advantage.

Microsoft Word

I have a number of years of experience using Microsoft Word products, with a concentration on Word 2003 and 2010.

Proofreading

I have been proofreading documents for my entire career. I am familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style, Strunk & White, AP, and MLA style guides.

Theatre

I have studied acting and have been acting in both community theater and professionally for nearly 20 years. I have experience with stage plays, television, and film, both as an actress and director. I believe that learning should be fun, and I have a great sense of humor.
