I'm a friendly high school senior that is enthusiastic in the subject of Mathematics. I hope to tutor any student and I hope to work my hardest with you to reach your full potential.
Here's a big accomplishment that I want you to know:
I am already used to hearing “I need your help,” from elementary students. When I began tutoring I found out that a majority of the students weren’t performing well on Arizona’s standardized test. The main reason I thought students weren’t performing well was due to a paucity of tutors. I began to tutor students in math, reading, and writing to improve their test scores. After every student finished their math homework, I reviewed each problem on the board and taught them how to evaluate each one. When it came to reading, I sat down with students while they read and corrected them if they mispronounced a word. On writing, I taught students how to write persuasive and narrative essays. However, during the process I found out that the most important reason scores were low was due to a group of students that couldn’t speak, write, nor read in English. Many of the students were Hispanic and their parents like mine, couldn’t help on homework because they didn’t speak English. So I shifted some of my attention to those students because I didn’t want to improve their test scores, but improve their use of the English language to establish a strong foundation for higher learning. I had students read to me in English, write a summary of their day in English, and I had conversations with them in English. Within a few months the student improved their test scores, but more importantly they improved their use of the English language.
