I've always enjoyed math ... it's like a puzzle. You have to be very careful and move step-by-step toward the solution using basic rules. It's exciting when you solve a complicated problem by breaking it down into the basic parts, use the rules to deal with each part sequentially, and then put it all together to get an answer that actually makes sense! I'm able to describe what's going on visually, and the rules are so ingrained into me through repetition, it's practically second nature.
I've had years of tutoring experience at university level math, and I have lots of experience counseling as a missionary in Brazil, which required me to learn Portuguese in 2 months, as well as techniques for helping people learn and make changes for the better. I'm friendly and cheerful, as well as very analytical, and I am firm believer that having the knowledge is only valuable if you can think critically. I encourage critical thinking by asking more questions than I do giving answers, thereby helping the student learn that they are already smart enough to be successful.
