My name is Sylvia, and I presently work as an instructional aid teaching 2nd and 3rd graders reading, writing and vocabulary skills in an elementary school setting. I am para certified and have references as well if needed. I love working with children one on one and it has been a joy to watch kids grow and develop in reading, writing and other English skills. I believe that all kids are capable of success and deserve the right to learn English skills properly. I have worked for the school system for 2 years now and have also tutored voluntarily for a private school my daughter attended. It was during that time that I decided I wanted to do this work for my career. I also was able to home school our daughter who has Aspergers for two years. This was rewarding as well as challenging. I understand many different quirks that children with Aspergers have. They are all very intelligent and have much to offer our society. I know that I would be able to work and help your child grow and develop as they learn the language in a fun environment. I am dibble and Azella trained. I can teach phonics, reading, and vocabulary skills. I test students first to see where they are at to know how and what needs they have as an individual. I will provide all materials as well as rewards for milestones reached. I am a firm believer that kids need encouragement in order to learn properly. I spoil the kids I work with now with cute stickers and the occasional candy and other prizes. I have seen growth and appreciation in all areas which makes all the extras worth it. If you would like your elementary age child to grow in the knowledge and understanding of the English language then I am the right fit for you. I have the work knowledge, training and experience needed to teach. You will not be disappointed. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and I look forward to working with you.

I contacted Sylvia as my first choice in tutoring for my 6 year old daughter. We love her. My daughter who is very shy warmed up very well and looks forward to each session. I hired Sylvia to help her with her reading as she is going into the first grade, with 4 lessons in I have noticed a huge difference in her reading. If you are looking for someone with patience then she is the one to hire. She puts a lot of thought and care into her teaching. I'm super happy with my choice and would highly recommend her to everyone.
I have been very happy with Sylvia. She has been open to working with my daughters needs as well as scheduling. I have full trust in her intentions to help with the learning process.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I enjoy teaching and learning about American history. I use worksheets, books and articles to help kids learn about historical events. I also give students word search, coloring pages and craft projects to explain events and make them interesting. I also put together tests and quizzes to monitor progress.
I am presently working with 2nd and 3rd grade students at an elementary school. I am a para certified instructor. I have been teaching about 2 years now and have home schooled our daughter for two years as well. I am qualified for teaching elementary age children. I enjoy working with these kids and have seen much growth while doing so. I test each child to see where they are at so that I can personalize a plan for them to be able to succeed. I use worksheets and oral reading techniques to accomplish English learning goals. I also test my kids weekly in there reading skills. I help my second grade students in basic Math such as addition, subtraction, fractions and geometrical shapes. I also teach Science and Social Studies.
I teach all aspects of the English language including reading, grammar and vocabulary to elementary age kids. I use review and writing techniques to do this. I go over sound blends and also have children use the dictionary as well. Testing for reading and comprehension speed lets me know where to begin with each student individually. I am dibble trained and like this method in helping students to read. I am confident that I can teach your son/daughter English skills as well. Look forward to hearing from you soon.
I am presently teaching 2nd and 3rd graders grammar skills. I work with these kids on a daily basis. I teach nouns, adjectives, verbs, pronouns, personal pronouns and prepositions. I do this with various worksheets and testing forms. I explain what each part of speech means and how it is used in a sentence.
I am a Certified Para Instructor. I presently teach phonics on a daily basis to 2nd and 3rd grade students. I use techniques such as sight words, sound blends, and diagraphs. My students learn the alphabet and review vowel sounds and consonants. Teaching word family groups and constant repetition taught the students I work with proper phonics skills.
I proofread what my students write on a daily basis. I check for punctuation and grammar errors. I enjoy helping my students learn how to write correctly.
I teach and help kids learn reading skills. I show them how to find the main idea and other pertinent pieces of information in a story. I enjoy watching kids as they become excited while learning how to comprehend and read. I use dibble techniques which times children in reading speed and most of all comprehension. I believe you can read a thousand words a minute, but if you can't comprehend it doesn't mean a thing. These skills have helped the kids I teach now how to read.
I teach children how to look up words and use the English dictionary properly. I have them write down words from there daily reading assignments that they don't presently understand. They enjoy this and get excited about learning new words.
I enjoy writing notes and letters when I can take the time to do so. I help the kids I work with now. I teach them proper writing structure which includes grammar, punctuation and capitalization of words. It is nice to see kids get excited about writing sentences and paragraphs. I believe it helps instill a good imagination.
