ADD/ADHD

I had several ADD students in my classrooms when I taught for five years in an elementary school. I also had ADD students in my kindergarten class, and when I taught 2nd grade as well. I teach in small chunks for students with ADD, so that they don't get restless.

Dyslexia

I worked with over 10 dyslexic students during my five years teaching. I use colored overlays, and other techniques to help dyslexic students. I had over 25 hours if training for dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a bachelor's degree in K-8th grade elementary school. I also have a masters in instruction and curriculum with an early childhood endorsement and a minor in Spanish.

Phonics

I taught phonics explicitly for Pendergast elementary school district for 5 years. I also have a masters degree that includes an early childhood endorsement.

Reading

I taught reading to kindergarteners and second graders for 5 years in a local Phoenix elementary school.

Special Needs

Because of the inclusion law I had several special needs students in my classroom during the five years that I taught special needs, which included students having IEPs that were below grade level. Some students could not read at all. When I taught 2nd grade I had several students that were at the kindergarten level and were considered special needs because of their academics.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
