I am a certified Special Education Teacher, and have had many years of working with kiddos who struggle with attention and focus. I use a variety of techniques to empower the student to gain the ability to improve their focus to learn and grow.
My goal is to provide the learner with tools, skills, and confidence that they CAN succeed.
I am a current Certified Special Education Teacher/ Cross Category. I have had the pleasure to work with students on the spectrum and have gained insight as to how the process of acquiring knowledge can be best instilled into these gifted children!
It is important to understand that most information isn't 'concrete' and often times the ability to understand abstract ideas and concepts can be most challenging for these kiddos. Using concrete tools and really helps with the ability to process and retain information.
I bring a variety of tools to the table to maximize the learning and processing for my students. I use many modalities of learning and incorporating a wide variety of technological tools to reach the wide diversity of needs of my students.

I have a broad repertoire of tools and resources that have proven to be useful and helpful for students on the spectrum. Utilizing BoardMaker picture cards to help the transitional issues, and to help motivate and maximize control over their own schedule and routine! I have worked with SLP's, OT's, and PT's in an academic setting incorporating some of the rich tools and ideas that they bring to the table as well. I have seen the benefit of "Social Stories" to help with the ability to 'relate' to a situation that they haven't had any exposure or experience in currently. I have worked in a school setting using the TEACCH approach and am familiar with the ABA approach as well.
I have always believed that there is a giftedness to discover within this child that will amaze and inspire!
Teaching students with dyslexia isn't very different from teaching English language learners and students with learning disabilities. It is important to implement visual cues, use of varying modalities and approaches to reach the various learning styles of students. I have worked with struggling learners for more than 20 years. In my experience with dyslexia I have utilized websites, ipad apps, use of text-to-speech programs, and Wilson to increase the success and confidence of my students.

I have had the great joy of working in the field of education for over 20 years. I have worked with some of the best curriculum as well as in situations where the curriculum was lacking and had to create lessons from scratch. I believe that it is the teachers job to ensure that all the lessons are engaging and interesting enough to captivate the learners attention. We live in a day of technology that is so far advanced from when we were children, and this challenge for teachers is to look forward to the types of jobs and challenges today's students would face in their future.
I believe in using the great myriad of technology available to us to teach. I use iPad apps, internet resources, videos, and teach my students to research what they don't understand on various tools. Of course, we must be active readers in order to use all the rich data resources that are available to us out there, so creating a love for reading and an interest in research are always a part of my lessons.
I have a current Elementary Education Certification, as well as a Special Education certification.
I believe that there are many ways to climb up the math mountain and we need to allow our students and children to conquer that mountain in the best way that they know how. It is important to allow the process of learning math to be rich with experimentation and lots of sharing ideas. I like to have my students share their ways of coming up with their answer and believe that each child has a creative way of learning that should not be stifled.
I am big on "Ignition Cognition" approach to learning and have seen kindergarteners able to incorporate algebra into their math learning without the fears that often come from introducing it.
I love also incorporating the use of songs, movement, rhymes and chants to help students remember some of those challenging concepts.
There are strategic and purposeful ways to introduce writing and letter formation. I have been trained in the Wilson's Literacy Program and used the foundations letter formation for teaching early handwriting. I have the curriculum and materials (visuals etc) to help students understand the placement of letters and the 'verbal guidelines' necessary to assist with all the steps of forming each letter. Letters always go from top to bottom. I have seen great success with handwriting using this beginning writing program.
I am also familiar with "Handwriting Without Tears" as an educator and a parent. There are tools, songs, and strategies that help with handwriting success.
I am a current certified Special Education K-12 and K-8 General Education teacher. I taught kindergarten/first grade for 5 years and have experience in early reading skills, phonics, phonetics, learning phonemes.
Early reading is such a critical element in the learners entire educational experience. I have spent many of my lessons working with struggling learners who just were not able to grasp the concept of early phonetic skills, which challenged me to find ways to help them acquire the much needed skills.
I believe in using songs, movement, rhymes, games and rich literature to not only install a great love of words, books, and learning, but to develop an excitement and confidence of phonics skills that will sprout into a full fledged reader!
Using word blends, word families, and manipulatives to create words and change around the sounds can help learners with phonics.
There are great and engaging iPad apps for increasing speed and fluency with phonics that I bring to the table for my students.
I have been working with struggling readers for over 5 years. I have used various curriculum and programs to support and encourage successful reading.
I believe in utilizing many modalities of learning to incorporate successful reading strategies and the successes that are achieved make the use of various modalities worth it!
I have worked in the field of special education for over 20 years. While I am not fluent in sign language, I am educated and trained on using it to communicate with elementary education students, as well as toddlers. I have a vocabulary of over 200 words. I have successfully communicated with ASD children and toddlers in a special education setting.
I have several resources that I use, and have taken the "My Baby Can Sign" program and utilized it in our home with my own child.
I have a current special education certification available. I have worked in the field of special education for over 20 years in various settings. I have worked cross-categorical and have had experience with all different ability levels.
I have had the honor of seeing a wide variety of programs and resources used over my employment and educational history. I believe that each child has an area of great gifting and it takes that teacher or parent who is driven to find it. One of my job duties has always been to be a personal cheer leader for my students. Most of the challenges students need to overcome, is the negative self-image they develop from a system that tells them "they can't". I believe "they CAN".
It is a great passion for me to see my students driven to the place of great success and accomplishments that overflow into their belief that they can be successful!
Current Certified Teacher who has been helping students with different ways to organize their thoughts and study to improve their learning outside of the classroom.
Different children will utilize a different modality to study. Some may need to have engaging videos or songs to incorporate the learning deeper into the memory, while others will experience success with the use of color coding and highlighting the materials that are being studied.
I consider it my skill to determine the type of learner that my students are to better help them develop successful study skills.
