I have tutored with two different companies over the past five years. I most recently worked for Advanced Learning Centers in St. Petersburg, Florida. I also worked for A to Z In Home Tutoring from 2007-2008.
I have been a Certified Tutor through the Pinellas County School Board since 2009. I have taught all subjects from grades 4-12 at a Charter Church School for 2 years. I recently relocated to Phoenix last month.

My specific areas of expertise include Math (3-9), Language Arts (all levels), Spelling/Vocabulary (all levels), History/Geography (all levels), and High School Business. I am very enthusiastic and passionate about helping our next generation, as these students are our future leaders.

I hold an MBA degree from The University of Alabama. I have spent over 20 years working in management for Fortune 500 Companies such as Xerox Corporation, Allstate Insurance Company, and McDonalds Corporation. I was a Marketing Instructor at Tuskegee University for 4 years, and taught adjunct classes at Auburn University, and Alabama State University as well.

Algebra 1

Get help with the basics of Algebra: equations involving coefficients, exponents, variables, and constants; commutative, associative, and distributive laws; order of operations, solving inequalities, factoring polynomials, and solving linear equations -- all this, and more.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is essential to having good reading skills. Students cannot read words they do not know. The more words they know, the faster they can read. The more meanings they know, the better they can comprehend. It's that simple. Students must be willing to do a little extra work in this area if they want to succeed. One of my strengths is being able to motivate students and to help them with memorization techniques.




Prealgebra

Pre-algebra includes all of the essentials to succeed in Algebra. Get help with fractions, decimals, order of operations, factorization, distributive and associative properties, ratio/proportion, area, perimeter, volume, circumference, radius, and, of course, understanding word problems.

Writing

To get to the next level students have to be able to write. All achievement tests (ACT, SAT) have some form of essay writing included. Concise, fluid writing is essential in this area. I have over 20 years experience in writing papers, essays, memos, resumes, and other documents.





Geography

Includes United States and World Geography. Students will know all continents, countries, state and country capitals, as well as bodies of water. Students will be familiar with Western and Eastern Hemispheres, as well as how to find locations using longitude and latitude. Students will know relationship of other countries in relationship to the United States in terms of size and location. World History

World History is such an important aspect of learning for students. What are our origins? Where did we get our languages from? Who were the first civilized people? This subject, combined with World Geography, constitutes a great portion of what students need to know in today's global economy, as different cultures and customs become important in global marketing. Not only was I a straight A student in History, but I have studied and travelled abroad as well.




Proofreading

Students must have an eye for detail, and know what words go where. Proper tense, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are all paramount. This skill is very important in essay writing and book report writing. I have extensive experience in writing and proofreading at the corporate level.




Spelling

Misspelled words are one of the most common mistakes that students make. The English Language is tricky for sure, but with proper tutoring it can be mastered. There are some basic rules that students should know, and certain "exceptions" that simply have to be memorized.




Elementary Math

The focus is on developing basic Math Skills, including multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, decimals, and ratios/proportions. I have spent more time tutoring in this area than any other. This is my specialty!


Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored students in K-6 for 3 years, in Math, Reading, and Language Arts. I have also taught all subjects at a charter church school for 2 years. I have been certified to tutor by the Pinellas County School Board in Florida to tutor for the past 3 years. I hold an MBA Degree from The University of Alabama.

Business

I hold an MBA (Masters in Business Administration) degree, and an undergraduate degree in Marketing from The University of Alabama. I have taught the following Business Courses at the college level for 4 years: Principles of Marketing, Promotional Strategy, Consumer Behavior, Retail Management, Principles of Management, Introduction to Business, Sports Marketing, and Professional Selling.
