Baseball

I played competitive baseball up until I graduated from college in 1985. The position I played was catcher and a little of 3rd Base. I also coached baseball at the little league level up to high school.

Basketball

I have played basketball and coached basketball for as long as I loved playing and watching the game. My competitive basketball playing days only lasted up until I graduated from high school. However, I began coaching soon after I graduated from college in 1985. I have coached age levels from 5 years of age to high school. I presently officiate high school basketball games as well as boys and girls park and recreation league games.

College Counseling

I am certified as a Late-Stage College Planning Specialist which allows me to assist students and parents plan for college funding and the financial aid process prior to their entrance into college. I show families where scholarship money can be found- especially through private universities- and utilize strategies that will present improved financial need which translates into more grants, scholarships and endowment monies from colleges and universities- all without using or spending their own savings or taking out huge college loans.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been an elementary school teacher in California before moving to AZ in 2006. I am certified to teach grades k-8 with an endorsement in ESL.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary and middle school core subjects that include reading, writing, math, science, and social science in grade levels 1-8 grades.

ESL/ESOL

I am certified to teach in all grade levels (K-12) and have an endorsement to teach ESL in the states of AZ and CA.

Golf

I have taught my son how to play golf since he was 4 years old. He is now almost 20 years old and is playing golf in college. As a sports coach- I have the approach to be patient and knowledge to help a child to adult learn the basics of golf. I have also taken a college-level golf class to understand the nuances of the game- including the rules associated with golf; the proper etiquette and attire when playing the game.

Reading

I have taught reading in grades 1st-5th grades. I have also taught reading as a middle school and high school ELD Teacher.

Religion

I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University- a private Christian university. I also am a CCV Youth Coach and help lead young male teenagers in Bible study.

Spanish

As a former Public School Spanish teacher- and as a second language learner myself- I have the a special understanding of language learning and teaching that allows each of my students to really learn a new language without all the stress involved.

Spelling

As a second language learner who had to learn to spell in English, I picked up techniques that aren't taught in school. Also, I have a background in Education and feel more than qualified to assist you in your desire to spell.

Study Skills

I would like to add study skills to my subjects list. Being a veteran and experienced teacher with over 20 years in the classroom- I feel I am qualified to assist elementary and middle school aged students with their study habits and skills.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
