With what subject can I help you? I am a Certified Elementary Education teacher grades K-9, also K-12 in General Music and Choral Music. I have been a professional musician for more than 25 years trained in Opera and Music Theatre. I have directed more than a dozen Broadway musicals designed for kids, high school students and young adults. I teach voice, piano, guitar, music theory, composition and music history. I can help students in pretty much any subject aside from music; Mathematics, English, Science, Reading, Reading Comprehension, and Writing, Computer Literacy,History, Government, Social Studies, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook) and Music writing software. As they say, I've been around.
One thing that I learned back in the day, was how to learn. My teachers taught me more than facts and figures, they taught me how to observe, how to decipher complex ideas and apply what I know to practical things. My greatest teacher was my father, who also taught me how to work wood and build things. He was an adept at learning, and I was his son and pupil. There aren't many renaissance men in the world, but I consider myself one of them.
One thing I know about learning and how I apply it to my tutoring methods, is that the person I'm tutoring does the work. Make mistakes, from learning theory we know that's how the brain works. I am your students guide and resource person. If they don't understand how to do something, I will help them explore multiple ways to gain that understanding and achieve success. I understand multiple intelligence theory and every student learns in a different way. There is no one way. Typically they use more than one mode, we can work together to strengthen other modes, but usually there are 2 or three that rise to the top.
