My name is Tsihugwa, which can be a tongue twister so friends call me Zee and students call me Mr. Zee. I have been a teacher/tutor for almost 28 years having first taught musical instruments in 1984. I graduated with Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1986 and a Master of Arts in Communication in 2001. I have taught high school, community college, and am currently on the online faculty at the University of Phoenix. In December 2010, I published my first novel entitled Son of the Oracle.
I believe my greatest teaching skill is the ability to discern where students are in relation to subject matter and identify problem areas. I am then able to work with them to bring them up to where they are supposed to be. Generally, I do not tell the students what to do. I challenge the students to realize what they are doing if it is different from what they should be doing. I then give them pointers and guidance on what they should be doing, and help put them on the right track. In this they are actively involved in learning and problem solving process, and they, therefore, learn more effectively.
I am easygoing, yet firm because I believe the primary objective of the student coming to me is to learn and this should be a painless yet fruitful, even fun venture!
What is Algebra 1? To keep it simple, I would say what I do with the student in the subject. I help the student understand how to manipulate mathematical expressions in order to simplify them, solve an equation or graphically represent expressions. I try to make students identify the key concepts and apply them in performing the operations mentioned above.
Having been a student of course, and as a teacher, I understand the apprehension of students when it comes to Math. One thing I tell them is Math can be easy with the right approach, which means have a positive attitude towards it. Then with each topic, the student needs to grasp basic the concept. Next they need to know what the problem or question is asking. Finally, identify what information is given or available in order to solve. Those who have tried this formula have found Math to be fun. You can too!
I have been an Apple products user for over 20 years. I am therefore very familiar with the operating systems and the user interface.
Apple tends to be very good at maintaining uniformity across devices and therefore familiarity with one is easily transferable to another. At present, I own a MacBook Pro, a G4 which I use for graphics and video editing, and an iPhone which I have noticed works as good as an iPad for many purposes. I am therefore comfortable with this platform and will be glad to help anyone new to it finding their footing.
I have a Masters degree in communications with emphasis in television. I worked for five years with a television network on live shows and pre-taped productions. Before that I co-produced plays, musicals, and other dramatic events in Kenya. I am the author of two books. I am also the MD of an online radio station called where I also am a presenter on a weekly live show. All this has given a broad feel for Public Speaking in different environments and a good grasp of the basic principles for a student's particular needs.
With study skills, I customize each lesson to the students individual needs in the specific subject. I first identify general areas of opportunity for the student in the subject. I then tailor each lesson to address the general need of the student. In particular, I identify attitude, approaches, strengths and weaknesses of the student. I then emphasize the positive qualities of the student and direct him or her to approach the subject in a way that identifies key steps required, therefore enhancing the learning process.
Quality of tutoring — Patrice is a good physics tutor. He explains the concept very well to my daughter and she understands the problems on her homework better. She has yet taken a test but I hope to see improvement after Patrice's help. ...
