I currently serve as the mathematics department chairperson at an area high school. I have been with this school since it opened in 2008. I have been teaching mathematics since 1999 at the secondary level. From 2003 to 2007, I taught multiple mathematics courses as an adjunct faculty instructor at Chandler Gilbert Community College. Prior to beginning my teaching career in 1999, I worked full-time in the real estate industry as a new homes sales manager and consultant from 1988 until the time I began teaching. The high school courses I have taught include Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. I also created a curriculum for and teach a fourth-year math alternative to PreCalculus called, “Financial Planning and Investments.” As an adjunct faculty instructor at the collegiate level, I have taught Arithmetic Review, Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and Mathematics for Elementary School Instruction. My ability to develop the skills of students who struggle with basic math concepts is exceptionally good. I have unique and creative yet fun ways to help students remember the essential math concepts they need to know to find success. I have taught children, teens and adults of all ages. Thank you for your consideration.
I coached junior college basketball from 1993-2005. During this time, I coached summer basketball camps for Lute Olson, Rick Pitino, Rob Evans, Dale Brown, Denny Crum, Gary Williams, and Jim Harrick. I was promoted to summer camp director for Coach Rob Evans at Arizona State University in 1998. While at Phoenix College, our teams won back-to-back region titles during the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons. I co-authored a book entitled, "Winning Against The Odds" with legendary Tulsa University Coach J.D. Barnett.
I have been an active Christian in my church for 11 years. I lead a small group Bible study every week and am active in leadership in my church. I study scripture and pray daily.
In addition to having a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from the University of Arizona, I also have a master's in Business from The American University. Additionally, I worked in the business world as a new homes sales manager in the real estate industry for six years while also being heavily involved in marketing research and management consulting.
For two years, I was a casino party manager for "On The Go Casino." I dealt poker, blackjack, and craps. I play poker often in my spare time recreationally.
As a high school teacher, I engage in the practice of public speaking every day I go to work. I have been teaching for 19 years. Additionally, as the men's head basketball coach of a junior college team, I was often asked to give speeches at fundraisers and banquets. I have written a number of speeches, and also written a book emphasizing motivational speeches given by coaches.
My education includes a BSBA degree from the University of Arizona and an MBA degree from The American University. I also earned a postbaccalaureate in secondary education from the University of Phoenix. During my master's degree program, I was required to give speeches to strategic management students which were designed to inspire an audience about emotional business-related subjects. Examples of these speeches including addressing an audience acting as the President of a company announcing necessary layoffs forthcoming. Other speeches addressed positive subjects such as an announcement about proposed salary increases. In all such speeches, the goal was to leave the audience feeling like winners or at least finding compassion with the content of the speech.
