I home schooled my children up until high school and that was only because their math skills exceeded mine. I am left handed and so have overcome dyslexia to get past algebra. It is very common to have dyslexia appear in left handed people. Remember, we are in our right minds (lol!) I try to make learning fun because I've discovered if it isn't fun then students don't usually remember what they were supposed to learn. I am well versed in a variety of methods as everyone learns differently. I do have some patience but I don't feel I have enough patience to help "special needs" students or English as a Second Language students. I am also not bilingual enough to help ESL students.
My math skills go up to trigonometry. I do know some trig but I need a refresher as it's been a while. I'm sure once I see the math it will come flooding back to me. As for English, I am extremely proficient with grammar, spelling and writing. I'm a little rusty on literature, though. However, if you have a student that needs help with literature, perhaps we can learn together. The student gets the help he/she needs and I get my refresher. It's a win-win situation. I always give positive reinforcement. Again, if the environment is negative, so is the learning experience and learning should be a fun, positive experience.
