I am Lauren. I am an up-and-coming Sociologist at Arizona State University.
As of January 2013, I have been a tutor for America Reads, a University Service Learning Program at Arizona State University.
Through this program, I provided one-on-one tutoring for children from Title I schools. My responsibilities were to develop and implement creative lesson plans designed to help the student achieve academic standards and goals. I am very well acquainted with the Arizona Common Core standards and I can bring your student to master these standards for success in school.
During my time with America Reads, I earned two Tutor of the Month awards in March 2013 and March 2014. I was also awarded the Segal Education Award as of May 2014.
I've adopted many principles and methods from America Reads, such as E.D.I.T., which is a method of teaching where you Explain the topic, Demonstrate how it is accomplished or how it works, Implement the lesson by guiding the student through the process, then Test their learning of the material.
Safety comes first! I have many policies that protect myself and my students. E-mails, phone numbers, or social media will not be distributed to my students. I will only have lessons in public locations such as the library. More policies will be outlined.
From January 2013 to May 2013, I tutored elementary students for America Reads, a program developed under the University Service Learning program at Arizona State University. I am familiar with the Common Core Standards and AIM's testing standards.
Studying at Tri-City College Preparatory High School, Linear Algebra was the building foundation for all mathematics courses. I have also been in a course focused on Linear Algebra as of 8th grade in an accelerated program. From there, I have completed mathematics courses in all levels up to Calculus and Analytical Geometry.
I have begun learning American Sign Language in 2011. I took a high school level course offered through Upward Bound at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I then continued taking ASL in the Fall of 2012 at Arizona State University, completing the courses 101, 102, and 201, totaling in two years of experience in classes. I have also been a small part of the Deaf community in Tempe, Arizona. I have been keeping up with my studies and I am learning everyday to become much more than fluent.
