I am currently teaching GED preparation classes in an adult correctional facility. I have an array of student types - the willing, focused, and interested; to the uninterested, angry, and easily distracted. However, with all these students with different prespectives about education, I have managed to produce pass rates between 80 - 100% in the GED tests. The times that I deliver the GED results to the graduates have been the most rewarding times for me - when I see how happy the inmate is to achieve such a milestone.
I believe in working from what the student knows, building upon it, and tying it with the unknown topics at hand. Collaborative learning among students has proved to be effective in the classes that I teach. Giving practical examples during the teaching sessions helps me a lot to explain abstract concepts.
I have taught in a formal college setting for more than eight years. I also have informally trained adults in agricultural and development programs for more than ten years. I am therefore proficient and comfortable in formal classroom delivery and informal training of adults.
I enjoy helping people achieve their learning objectives.
