I have been a teaching assistant at ASU for several years, and over that time I have taught several small classes as well. I have never been given a negative review and most, if not all, of my students have found me to be a good instructor who is able to make even complex concepts accessible.

The keys to learning anything are to (1) utilize excellent real world examples and (2) self-involvement. The first is key to opening a the door to understanding a topic and the second is the key to learning to walk through it. While this may be difficult to achieve, it has been, in my experience, very effective at assisting students acquire understandings of new topics, ideas, and viewpoints.

Study Skills

With a degree in Cognitive Psychology, I know a fair deal about memory. In sum, most knowledge problems for people without cognitive deficits are due mostly to either (1) a lack of proper study time, (2) cramming, (3) a lack of deep processing (people tending to focus on surface memorization rather than a deeper understanding of the material.) Address these issues and people's grades go up. People remember more. And then the positive reinforcement cycle kicks off.

Public Speaking

I have performed in several plays in both speaking and singing roles.

I served as Chaplin for my Boy Scout Troop and Youth Group for several years.

I took a Public Speaking class during my undergraduate.

As a teaching assistant and graduate student, I also give lectures at ASU in front of varying group sizes: 20-400.

Because of this, I have a great deal of experience in public speaking, and, since I haven't been fired, I'd argue I'm fairly good at it.
