I am certified as a teacher in 3 states, NY, NJ and IN and certified as a Technical Trainer (CTT+) which is based on 14 teaching competencies as founded by the Educational Testing Service based in Princeton, NJ. I am known for my passion to motivate my student(s), deliver beyond expectations and ensure my student(s) reaches that "ah-ha" moment!
My teaching philosophy is based on the formula that every child has the potential to learn and is motivated to do so when their teacher understands how they learn. I always step up to the plate to provide my student(s) with those educational challenges that will motivate my student(s) to go above and beyond their own capabilities.
I discovered early on that being a great teacher – while there are many skills, qualities, traits, emotions and knowledge that make a great teacher, the most important of all is the teacher’s ability to understand the needs of their students, learning styles, and how to weave that into the curriculum at hand at their level.
The measures of my success are reflected in the stories I hear now that I’m gone. For example, a student recognizing me in a crowd and telling me how lucky they were to have me as a teacher because I influenced them to care enough about themselves to want more out of life! Or, when I ran into a parent of one my students and they ask me to please come back and teach their grandchildren because I gave their children such a wonderful and successful experiences. Or, hearing tidbits of information from my friends who know students I used to teach and share their accolades for having had a teacher like myself. It all is so rewarding and makes me reflect on the reason for my success – my strategy is and will always be to put the student first by understanding what drives them to learn and then leveraging their learning style to teach the new concepts!
While this philosophy of mine creates a lot of work for me, it’s the only way I know how to teach; and, the best part of it all is that it works! So the ‘work factor’ is minimal because it’s outweighed by the ‘reward factor’. So rewarding...I’m still find myself in various teaching roles today.
My career began as an elementary teacher and I had the fortune to teach K through 6th during my career.
I was and still am successful as a teacher due to my ability to accept every new student with a clean slate, to teach concepts to their level and learning style, to provide further development through numerous hands-on activities and to understand that learning can be fun!
I have students to this day that contact me and thank me for my teaching style! My persistence to help others excel, see that light bulb turn on, and passion for excellence make me the success that I am!
My love for math motivated me to minor in math while earning my Bachelor of Science degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
I have the facility to help others understand math and their level and interest!
For example, if I have a student that loves sports, I will incorporate it into the learning of new concepts. It's a win-win formula!
I began building my HTML skillset as a result of teaching the Internet to student(s).
My curiosity and appetite to learn HTML motivated me to build and help others build web sites for their hobbies or small businesses by using HTML.
While there are many HTML editors and GUIs that facilitate the creation of a web page, a web designer always has more power and creativity when they understand how to leverage HTML - hypertext markup language.
I have trained many students and individuals to leverage the power of using Excel. It has tremendous power that is rarely tapped by most.
I strive to understand the needs of my Excel user(s) and then teach them what they need to know using their business/personal needs for the software.
It's a great formula that makes sense to all my students!
As a Certified Technical Trainer and previous Elementary Education teacher, I have a passion for teaching others how to be more organized with Outlook!
Outlook is more than just an email program. You can utilize the Task feature to help you become more organize with both your personal and work life.
The Calendar feature is more than just for making your own appointments. You can make meetings and invite others who do not even have Outlook! It's all so simple once you know the tricks!
You can also use Outlook to store "hot links" to your favorite files, or share your available time with others; or use the contacts to easily organize your personal and business associates.
Besides did I mention that it's a lot of fun to learn these added features!
I love to help others with PowerPoint because I have discovered in my more than 10 years of training/tutoring the software that it is the most misused software.
What I mean - most student(s) work really hard to create even a small presentation.
When I have the opportunity to teach someone PowerPoint, then always leave with a smile on their face because they leave knowing that they can save time creating presentation and create a presentation to be more professional.
I have more than 10 years of successfully teaching small groups and large groups how to use MS Project successfully. And, yes, I have tutored private clients on using MS Project more effectively.
I especially get excited about teaching MS Project because it is way more powerful than a tool to list your tasks and assign resources.
It can actually help you manage your deliverables that are most meaningful (on the critical path) to you meeting your deadlines.
Did I mention that you can assign resources and track the amount of time they are spending on their tasks, too!
It has a lot of built in functionality that will help you save money for your company or for self like when planning a wedding.
I can help you easily understand what might seem complex for you! Let's get started!
As a successful, vibrant trainer, I do enjoy helping others find those "aha moments" even with Windows.
Are you tired of trying to find your files? Perhaps, you're wondering how to add a new printer. Maybe you would simply like to easily find or access the applications you want and need on a daily basis. Or, maybe you simply want to learn more about how to use Windows more effectively!
I can help you learn how to add/remove printers, locate and manage applications on their computers, understand where your files are stored, customize your desktop so that it reflects you and, more importantly, how you work and share with you many more tricks and tips to working more effectively.
Like other MS Office products, Word provides far more than the opportunity to electronically write down your thoughts or those of someone else.
It has the capability to help you create a budget, create a mail merge using your Outlook contacts during the holidays or other festive events, collaborate on a document easily, or even create a simple photo album and much more!
If you provide me the opportunity to tutor you on Work, I'm confident that you will not be disappointed.
My success in teaching most any topic is my ability to leverage the learning style(s) of my students.
Simply said - a student learns information more easily based on their learning style(s). For example, if my student learns by using their hands, kinetic learning style, then I would incorporate games and other activities to stimulate and motivate them to learn phonics.
My success in teaching phonics is inherent in my ability to identify my student's learning style and then teach to it. Therefore, it is a common practice for me to teach phonics to my students through games, reading, music, pictures, and even their peers.
I have more than 20 years in the industry of creating, managing and delivery all types of training initiatives.
One of my high points was creating a program for more than 400 students that focused on helping them to become better teachers / facilitators and then become certified as a technical trainer.
My program is based on 12 competencies that are recognized across the US as competencies needed to teach / present information to small and large groups. It also included tips and tricks to keeping your presentation lively and on target.
My students learned the most as a result of being videotaped. They were able to see where they did very well, and on their own where they need help.
Allow me to partner with you and help you become a better public speaker.
As the spelling bee champion of my elementary school district, I have many tips and tricks for spelling words correctly and easily.
I will help you discover why spelling is a challenge for you and then leave you with tips and techniques to help you be a better speller.
My more than 20 years successfully teaching and tutoring students to learn more effectively is due in part to my ability to understand how and when a student learns best.
In addition, I share lots of tips and tricks with my students with hopes that they find the studying technique that's best for him/her.
