The saying that "a picture is worth a thousand words" is very true and a thousand words can paint a beautiful and meaningful picture. Learning how to make a picture with a camera is more than just taking a picture. Find out why you stop and look at some pictures and why you just glance at others and pass on.

Our speaking can have the same effect as a good picture. When some speak, we are glad when it is over and others make us want to hear more. What is the difference? Perfecting Photography skills will give us greater freedom of expression. Perfecting our speaking skills will make us better understood and more enjoyable to listen to.

We can work together in either, public speaking or photography or both. I am a photographer for my own pleasure first and than for my clients needs. The experience I have gained is in the areas of news, events, commercial, fashion, out of doors, weddings and portrait photography. Professional photography started for me in nineteen seventy two and has grown to include the digital imaging world of today. My individual and small classes have satisfied the desire of my students to feel comfortable using a camera and accessories as tools to express them selves.

Overcoming the fear of public speaking and learning to express ones self clearly and holding interest is my goal for each of my students. I have more than forty years of public speaking experience and tutoring of persons of all ages.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

I have forty years of photography experience starting with black and white and color film and evolving into digital photography. I have learned the mechanics of photography and the artistic value of a picture, as well as using light to convey mood and feeling. You will become intuitive with your equipment so you can concentrate on the picture and not the camera. Learn to make pictures not just take pictures.

I trained as an apprentice to a wedding and portrait photographer Robert Bagely Photography, for two years and enhanced my education by reading and assisting at weddings and portrait sessions. I began to freelance in the fashion and portrait market in nineteen seventy-five, where I perfected my skills in lighting and exposure. To my credit, I have worked for the Miss Universe Pageant as a fashion photographer for Le Petit Jean Shoes, Guest Informant (hotel directory), Vista Systems (electronics), Bass Pro Shops Personnel portfolios, and many weddings and portrait sessions. My most rewarding experience is the students I have tutored who have become proficient in photography.

Public Speaking

I have and am currently teaching classes of 30-150 students in group classes for the public ministry. I also tutor one-on-one individuals with special needs regarding reading and public speaking. I have over thirty years of experience in the training of public speakers. My students are from age seven to eighty seven.

I can help students learn to speak from an outline. I will teach them how to formulate a written outline and how to use it to optimize visual contact, warmth and sincerity. I can also teach how to formulate a mental outline for occasions when one must speak on short notice. Usually an audience will remember only three things from a verbal presentation. Individuals must have enough useful information to allow each audience member to assimilate the essence of the information.

Reading

Reading with comprehension is the key to education. Reading out loud with feeling and conviction can be a key element of convincing and educating an audience. You will learn to read with comprehension and to read aloud with feeling.

Remember that when you give a speech or presentation, you are the only one who knows what you have planned to say. Why is this so important? If you forget to say something at the proper time in your outline or leave out a segment of your program, no one knows but you. You can include it in your continuing presentation or make any correction you feel comfortable with and no one knows but you... read more
