I have a BS in chemistry with a concentration in mathematics from Bucknell University, an MS in organic chemistry with a concentration in mathematics from Case-Western Reserve University and an MBA in finance and management planning from Northwestern University.
In addition, I have had five years of German and was a member of Toastmasters International for more than three years.
I've had my own business and medical writing firm for more than 30 years now and have been involved in tutoring ESL students in the Buckeye area for several years.
Over the years, I've discovered, from talking with many students and parents, that most learning difficulties stem from fear.
"I know I'll never be able to get this."
"Math/science/a foreign language is always hard."
"My brother-sister-friend always had problems with this subject."
"If I have to make a speech, I'll die!"
"I couldn't write a paper to save my life."
I don't teach you to do a math problem, I show you how to look at the process of solving the problem. I teach you how to approach the solution. Once you learn the process, you can apply that same process to every math problem without fear.
It's like painting a room. Once you learn how to approach the job and determine what needs to be done and in what order - in other words, once you learn the process of painting - you can paint any room.
The same strategy applies to science, writing, foreign languages and, YES!, even public speaking!
You can learn to love learning, and you'll see your grades improve.
