I am originally from Yemen, but I am proficient in other dialects as well. My English is without an accent and though I have been in the Phoenix area for only a few years, I have already tutored students at the local college that I still attend. I feel a major strength that I have is that I hold the middle ground between the younger and older demographics; I can relate to the older group and still keep the interest of the younger children. I don't teach Islam as part of my course lessons, as some people have a strong bias towards it. Instead, I try to focus on vocabulary that is universally needed and approach the language with a practical measure. You will progress quickly and be able to have a simple conversation after just one lesson.
The "Pimsleur Approach" is an excellent format that I incorporate into my style, and I encourage self study to get the most out of the short time we have. Each lesson will begin with a review of the previous and build from where you already are until you feel at least 50% comfortable with the new material. The key to keep in mind is that repetition works better than memorization with no follow up. Use what you learn as much as possible, and I guarantee you will obtain whatever level of proficiency that you wish to obtain.
As an extra service, I can arrange special sessions at certain junctions where the student can meet other students and practice what they have learned. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or requests for tutoring.
