I am very excited to tutor your child. I am energetic and LOVE helping others learn and live to their potential. I have the ability to make subjects exciting and bring about learning in real life ways to make it much easier to understand and remember. I appreciate different learning styles and do my best to accommodate your child’s with my tutoring. I will help your child learn about life while helping him or her learn his or her subjects. I love learning as well, so if there is an area where I do not know the answer to a question, I will help your child find it. I encourage questions and believe often having questions can be the best path to learning about many subjects. I welcome the opportunity to help your child become a positive contributing member of society, now and in the future. I enjoy helping children realize what they are able to accomplish and witnessing the thrill of believing in themselves.
I am very skilled at goal setting and am able to facilitate a way in which goals are to be accomplished. I believe it is important to have an ultimate goal, in order to have direction with what one is doing. I will sit down with you (the parent, along with your child if you would like) and we will develop goals that we will check on periodically to ensure that my time with your child is spent effectively. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geography from Southern Oregon University. During my time in college I took a wide variety in courses math, science, literature, and social science. Throughout my schooling, I have learned that learning is very individualistic and not all teaching types work for all students.
I received my MAT (Master’s of Arts in Teaching) from USC in elementary education and possess a California Teaching Credential and will shortly be renewing my Arizona Teaching Credential. I have an endorsement for teaching English Language Learners as well. During my education at USC, I learned techniques to use to motivate students, help them achieve their goals, different ways to teach them to best fit their learning, and ways to evaluate the learning they have accomplished.
I have also worked in a school setting as a classroom teacher (sixth grade). During teaching, I created my own lessons and taught students the core subjects of English, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. I have also been an Educational Assistant (second grade). In this position, I often worked one on one with students who in need of extra assistance. I also worked with a small reading group and was able to help them advance dramatically within the year.
I worked as the Access Coordinator at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where I was in charge of all facets of special needs for patrons at the theatre. I supervised sign interpreters, audio describers, and was able to implement open captioning at the festival. I am experienced in working with those who have special needs as well as working with those who are there to assist them.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet and tutor your child.
