My primary profession is electrical engineering. I have worked in this profession for over 30 years. I currently manage the engineering labs at Harding University, where I test lab equipment of all kinds, conduct lab experiments and assist students with their lab projects.

I also have a Master's degree in Education from Harding, but am not certified as a public school teacher. I usually take a direct approach to teaching, but when illustrations, analogies or further application is need I will include them. I like to read the student and get feedback to determine how well the material is being received.

I have a degree in theology as well, which includes four semesters of biblical Greek. I enjoy digging into that language to discover deeper meanings.

I have received numerous awards during my career in electrical engineering.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Taking the ACT is as much about how to take the test as it is knowing the subject matter. When the student thinks critically about the question some answers can quickly be eliminated, leaving only a few to spend more time on. Having time to answer all the questions is very important. Being able to work this way allowed me to score 35 on the math portion.

Algebra 1

I use the concepts in algebra 1 every day. These concepts allow me to adjust the ingredients in a recipe - to figuring out how many bags of mulch to buy. I use it in my lab work to help students find the correct values of electronic components to build their circuits.

Algebra 2

I am an electrical engineer with 30 years of experience. I had a full range of math classes to earn my engineering degree. I use algebra on a regular basis to assist engineering students with their projects. I am currently the lab director at Harding University.

Electrical Engineering

I have worked in the electrical engineering field for over thirty years. Ten of those years I taught customers how to program and maintain computer graphics workstations. I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Ohio Institute of Technology with a GPA of 3.4. I currently manage the engineering labs at Harding University where I test equipment, run experiments and advise students on their lab projects.

Geometry

Students often ask me how much material they need to order for their mechanical projects. I use the concepts in geometry to help them determine what they need. An understanding of geometry helps us understand the common shapes found in our world and the mathematical symmetry in them.

Greek

I finished four semesters of Biblical Greek, receiving an A in all classes. I translated the Gospel of John during the last class. I tutored students in lower classes during my last two semesters. I received the outstanding student award during those semesters. I finished my studies with a Bachelors degree in Theology.

Linear Algebra

I use and teach linear algebra to analyze complex electrical circuits to find the voltage and current at specific connections and components. Linear algebra is the study of vector spaces and linear mapping of those spaces. Most common techniques include systems of equations and matrix math.

SAT Math

While I have never taken the SAT, it is a standardized test, a little like the ACT. Since it is a timed test, knowing how to use time wisely allows the student to answer more questions and spend time where it is needed most. This approach allowed me to do very well on the math portion of the ACT.

Trigonometry

I mostly use trigonometry to help students determine the compound angles when cutting metal to build their mechanical projects. Understanding trigonometry also helps me understand the forces and stresses that will be applied to these metals. This helps the student decide if a larger piece is needed or if a different design approach must be taken.
