Hi. I'm Michelle and I like helping kids or adults. I have special interests in music and anything to do with language arts. I want to help you or your child to have a clearer vision of your course work and will do anything to help with that goal. I have been helping people since I was a kid myself and getting calls from friends asking for help with homework. I absolutely encourage kids to think for themselves. Just ask my kids. I consider my job as helping my students obtain the skills to find their answers when I'm not around. Some of my more unconventional practices might include, spelling to a beat, speaking in a different voice to make something more memorable, incorporating movement with learning, or singing about whatever we are learning about. I once made my daughter pull out all the butter knives and we grouped them by twos, fours, etc. I have also used other musical people like Jack Hartman to teach multiplication.
I love kids, love any kind of tutoring challenge. I have worked with kids who were difficult to work with and kids who were so frustrated with learning that they were just totally frozen. I have worked with blind people, children, including my own and even one or two who were high functioning autistic. I even worked with a few kids who had head trauma injuries. I have worked with many kinds of kids. So if you or your child is struggling with reading, language arts, s.a.t prep, social studies, music or biology, let me help you to find the clear vision of where you are going in your course work. One of my favorite quotes from the movie Blind Side is where the tutor is talking to the boy who doesn't understand and she stops him and says "Yet. You don't understand yet." I like to think that I approach my students the same way. Part of my love for tutoring comes from the fact that I also had difficulty reading and a lot of trouble with math. I like to think that my own past struggles will help others succeed.
