I have more than twenty-two years of knowledge, skills and experience in Business Management techniques. This includes developing integrated improvement strategies, business process improvement and documentation, employee development and recognition strategies, as well as customer satisfaction and loyalty strategies and techniques. My skills and knowledge have also been honed through my work with the Michigan Quality Leadership Award (MQLA) Program. During the nine years I was involved in this program I served as an official Examiner that assessed the overall performance of local businesses that submitted comprehensive applications which responded to a detailed set of criteria. I had to go through extensive training over that period to be an effective Examiner. I have used that training to help further my work with other businesses.

English covers a number of areas--reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, proofreading, and more. I have been tutoring in this area for more than four years at my church and on a one-on-one basis (upon request). My approach is to begin by determining in what area the student is having the most trouble. For example, some of my younger students have problems with comprehension (does the student understand what he/she has read?). I will have him/her read a passage or, perhaps the entire piece and then discuss what the writer's intentions were. What was the intended message? How do we figure this out?
Some students have a limited vocabulary. In this case we will develop a list of terms (words, phrases, etc...) that they need to learn. We then include those words in writing sentences, or we will highlight them as we read and stop to discuss how they impact what we are reading or writing.

I have more than fifteen years of experience using Microsoft Excel in my work as a Consultant and Trainer. The built-in formulas and its link to the other Microsoft products in the Office Suite make it easy to use. I have used it to create products for my clients as well as for my own personal use. I have also worked one-on-one with others who have had to create spreadsheets for their school assignments. As a Consultant and Trainer, I must communicate both orally and written. This is especially important when I am developing training content. Therefore, I have to pay close attention to grammar, sentence structure, but even more importantly, I must pay attention to how the writing flows. Am I getting my point across? Have I written clearly and succinctly? These are areas you will need to focus on in your applications as well. Let me help you with this.
Just the thought of being in front of a group of people, especially strangers, is enough to make some of us weak with fear. Even those of us who must speak or present to others on a regular basis will sometimes feel that sudden churning sensation in the pit of our stomachs. How do some people make public speaking seem so easy? How do they appear to be so comfortable doing this? Are they that much smarter than us? Is there some special gene they carry that makes public speaking so easy for them (at least that is the way it appears)? Not really. However, there are some common characteristics they all share. What are these characteristics you ask? Let me share a few of them with you.
1. They are very well versed in the subjects or topics they talk about.
2. They have a good understanding of the audiences they are addressing and how to reach them.
3. They don't just present information, they tell stories.
4. They are passionate about the information they are sharing.
4. They practice, practice, practice.
5. They know how to engage their audiences (interact with them).
I could go on, but I think you get the idea. The great thing about the above is we can all improve these skills with training, practice and commitment. The next time you need to speak before a group of peers, strangers, or anyone else, think about:
- The topic (how well do you know it?)
- The audience (who are they?)

Reading has always been an important part of my life. This is a skill that I consider to be a foundation to all other skills. I have used my skills in this area to tutor students for the past four years in the Tutoring Program with my church (grades 4 - 12). I have also provided these services as part of my work in Junior Achievement’s Business Partnership Program with a former employer. I worked in that program for more than three years. As a Business Consultant and Trainer for more than 22 years, I have often needed to utilize my planning skills to get work done. I have also worked with the Tutoring Program at my church for four years. During this time I have helped my students learn the importance of planning ahead when it comes to studying. I teach them how important it is to be prepared with the materials they need to study (books, assignments, paper, pens, etc...) and the need to remove distractions when they study. I tutor students from the 4th through 12th grades in English, reading and writing. Most of these students have needed assistance with developing good study skills to help them improve their grades.
