My feeling towards mathematics education is that the essential key is understanding. When one understands, there is no more mystery and frustration. To teach mathematics effectively, you must be able to guide a student to learn on his or her own and to realize that within, they always had the capability to solve the problem at hand. Ultimately then, an effective teacher is one who helps the student develop this inner self-confidence in their ability – thus to not only understand the topic but to understand themselves.
As for my own education, I graduated Cum Laude with an Associate’s degree in General Studies from Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado Springs CO and Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry NY. I am a member of the National Mathematics Honor Society, Pi Mu Epsilon and in my spare time continue to study subjects ranging from mathematical physics to philosophy. As a tutor, I am well suited to teach up to the undergraduate level in calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, statistics, finite mathematics, discreet mathematics and physics.
