Hello to all parents and students!
My name is Veronica, and I hold a degree in psychology. I would like to explain my method of tutoring, so you can decide if I will be the right tutor for your son or daughter. In my personal experience, I have learned that many who need help in their studies are needing help because they do not know which style of learning is best for them. Yes! Many students need to be taught how to study! How many have heard their child say, "I have read the chapter a dozen times, and I still don't understand it!"? This is because that child is not a "Verbal/Linguistic" learner. How many have a child who watches the teacher work out problems on the board, yet, they can not repeat the steps? This is because your child may not be a "Logical/Mathematical" learner. Some have the ability to think in images and pictures but not in logic, while another may be musical and another kinesthetic. Learning how to study effectively for one's personalized learning style is imperative to mastering all skills and all subjects. This being said, I initially observe your child studying in their typical way, then I ask questions to determine if your child is studying in a way most efficient to their needs. If not, then I help your child learn how to study based on his/her individual learning style. Once a learning style is determined, let the fun begin! While tutoring in your child's learning style, this can be musical, kinesthetic, linguistic, visual, logical, interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Learning CAN be fun, and a child can feel a sense of true accomplishment when he/she studies properly then aces their quiz or test. It is crucial for your son or daughter to have high self-efficacy which will go hand-in-hand with high self-esteem. Knowing that he/she IS intelligent and IS capable of mastering all studies will be a lesson needed now and in life. I am a firm believer that confidence and encouragement can take children to amazing places and give them the "boost" they need to be successful in school and in life.
I would like to give you some background information about myself. I am the mother of four, including one child who has special needs and another who battled and won the fight against Leukemia. I have worked as an ESL teacher, translated for a government agency, and home schooled children. I graduated in 1996 with an advanced high school diploma, and before turning 18, I was already a college student. I got my first degree in paralegal studies, and my second degree in psychology. My future plans are to continue on to medical school and study neurology. I have long been a believer in behavioral and cognitive theories. I believe every child, adolescent, and adult has the abilities to be his or her best if given the proper tools for self-responsibility and recognition to consequence versus benefit. If you believe I am the right tutor for your child, then I would love to have the opportunity to show you just how far your child can go once given the right tools for success!
