Sample Excel (c) Practice Exercises
25. In cell A1 Format the cell to a Date of the type ‘03/14/11’. Under Formulas, Date, insert the Function DATE. Place Jim’s birthday of June 15, 1950 into that cell using the Dialog box for the DATE Function. In cell A2 place the Date Function TODAY in cell A3 format the cell to a Number with one decimal place. In cell A3 calculate Jim’s age by subtracting Jim’s birthday, which is in cell A1 from the date that is in cell A2, then divide that answer by 365.25. Make the final answer a whole number by adding the Math & Trig function INT to the formula in cell A3.
26. Type the word ‘Names’ in cell J1. Starting in cell J2 and going down, type the names John, William, Steve, Marcie, Jane, Tamika, Ryan, Charles, Virginia, and Brigitte. Highlight J2 thru J11 and Sort the Names in Ascending sequence. Highlight cell J1, then FILTER that column using Filter which is under the Sort Function. Filter it such that it keeps only Names that CONTAIN the letter ‘a’. Reverse this action, then repeat using the Filter and try one of the other conditions that are available to Filter the Names.
