I have taken a round-about route to arrive at teaching. After working as a lawyer and later a hair stylist, I was blessed with the opportunity to teach speech at Calhoun. I loved teaching so much I returned to graduate school at UAHuntsville to get my master's degree in English, a task I completed in December 2011. I currently work as an adjunct instructor at Columbia State Community College in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. While I love being in the classroom, one of my favorite parts of my job is assisting students on an individual basis. I try to find ways to make each lesson relate to the student's personal experience. I find that most learn best when they can relate to the material on a personal level rather than in the abstract. I love to teach and I love helping students find their voices.
I am skilled in English essentials as well as test-taking skills.
Skilled in content preparation as well as test-taking skills.
I taught Fundamentals of Public Speaking for one semester at Calhoun Community College. I engage in public speaking on a daily basis when I teach composition to my students at Columbia State Community College in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. I also have several years experience as an attorney, during which I engaged in public speaking in the courtroom.
