It is very exciting to teach on the border between two countries, primarily because of El Paso’s rich culture and diverse population. Many of the school districts in the area have dual language programs. Although Spanish/English (50/50) is dominate in the El Paso ISD, Ysleta ISD, Socorro ISD, and several other outlying districts, it is not the only option. At Alicia R. Chacón International Elementary, Ysleta ISD, there is an 80/10/10 Model for the whole school (K-8th) English/Spanish/third language (such as German, Japanese, or Russian). There are a few other schools on both sides of the U.S./Mexican border that offer immersion classes in languages not limited to English and Spanish.
