Help Your Child Get Ahead This Summer

What are YOUR children doing this summer? Studies have shown that students often lose one to three months of learning over the summer break especially in Reading, Spelling and Math. With federal and state budgets not even giving schools enough tools for regular studies, students who would like programs for enrichment or remedial help are without resources. Do you REALLY want your child spending the whole summer playing video games and watching TV?

Continuing learning through tutoring during the summer months is a wonderful way of insuring a positive school year ahead. There are so many benefits to this.
1. Tutoring during the summer enables children to master important skills or explore areas of interest in a fun way, and feel a personal commitment through individualized one-on-one learning.
2. Tutoring during the summer can help students who didn't do so well this year catch up and get ahead before the start of the new school year.
3. Tutoring helps develop self-esteem and confidence that may have been destroyed by getting bad grades during the regular school year.
4. Tutoring helps students master the benchmarks necessary for passing state reading, writing, and math standardized tests.
5. Tutoring helps prepare students in high school by giving them the tools and confidence necessary to take the SAT's and ACT's.
6. Tutoring helps children with learning, physical or emotional challenges who can fall back because of skills lost during the summer months.

Tutoring blog

I tutor multiple subjects and work as a teacher for Kaplan Career Institute as well. I teach Electrical Technicians for Kaplan, and I tutor a number of other subjects. My favorite subject is Physics. I'm currently tutoring a young man to improve his ASVAB score, so he can get into the Air Force. The ASVAB is the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. I took the same test when I was in High School. I think it was administered in Lodi, New Jersey, and that was 30 years ago.

If you know anyone who would like some extra help in Physics, Trigonometry, Chemistry, or any of the standardized admissions tests, please gimme a shout!

English Language Arts, SAT, ACT students are skilled in two languages

To improve the outcomes for all students, many public schools place students in special education classes. This can be achieved in a variety of ways, but all must involve high-quality instruction delivered in small classes designed to support learners.  These classes are either English as a Second Language (ESL) classes or Special Education classes.

Instruction and intervention must be aligned with students’ needs. In other words, if  we are meeting students’ needs, then the outcomes we expect will come to pass. In relation to there being too many Limited English Proficiency (LEP) students in Special Education, the outcome that has been measured in much of the research. Because it is very difficult for most school districts to test students from various groups, students are often identified for special education services.

Identification of entitlement for special education is not merely based on intelligence or ability to complete tests, but can be based on whether the student can read proficiently or demonstrate appropriate social skills. Therefore, determining whether a student is qualified for special education should include a focus on differences in outcomes of a variety of tests. The tests should include tests given in the student's native language.

Public schools frequently place many more LEP students in special education because the assessment they are required to give limits the ability for the student to demonstrate their true abilities in the English language.

My experience in private tutoring with students with both an English as a Second Language (ESOL) and Special Education designations has provided me with the tools and abilities to assist all students.  I have learned that labels placed on students from the public school system are not always accurate. Each student has the potential to succeed. And I am just the person to assist them with tutoring services to reach their potential.
